Deepest lakes in the world by maximum depth (approximate)

About this puzzle

Lake depth is one of those records where the famous answer and the surprising answers sit side by side. One entry on this list is technically a sea, one is buried under miles of Antarctic ice, and one holds more fresh water than all the Great Lakes combined. O'Higgins/San Martín is the deepest lake in the Americas and slips in just ahead of Lake Malawi. Depths are maximums, rounded and approximate, since the floors of these basins are still being surveyed.
