About this puzzle
Federal holidays arrived in waves rather than all at once, and the gaps between them are enormous - the oldest on this list predates the newest by more than 150 years. The date being ranked is when Congress made the day a federal holiday, not when the event it commemorates took place, and those two dates can be centuries apart. Each figure is the year the holiday was signed into law.
