About this puzzle
Every continent keeps one number it would rather forget: its hottest officially recorded temperature. This puzzle ranks the five highest continental records, and the spread between first and last is only fourteen degrees Fahrenheit - even Antarctica's 59°F record would be a warm summer day almost anywhere else. Two of these readings were set before television existed, and the world record spot has survived its own challenge: Libya's long-recognized 136°F was thrown out in 2012, leaving this leader as the hottest air temperature on Earth.
