About this puzzle
Surface area and water volume rank the Great Lakes differently, which is why almost everybody gets this list wrong in the same place. The commonly assumed order puts Michigan second because it looks longer on a map and is the only one entirely inside the United States, but by surface area Huron edges ahead of it. Two of these lakes even sit at identical elevation and are joined by a strait, so hydrologists treat them as one body of water while maps insist on two.
